The inspiration for No-Slip Bags
was seeing oversized trash bags with knots tied in them
at hotels and convention centers during business trips. Despite
the knots, I found that the bags would still frequently slip down.
The problem is that the knot always tightens up before the opening of the bag is tight enough around the can. I knew from doing this at home that the only way to get the bag truly tight, was to tie the knot at just the right spot before you put the bag in the can.
Even after doing this many times at home, it’s still a hit-and-miss method. If you take out too much slack, the bag opening will be too small, and the bag will tear when you try to stretch it over the can. When too little slack is taken out, the bag will still slip down.
That’s why every trash bag at every hotel I’ve ever stayed at looked like the one in the image below.
The bag is much larger than needed to line the can, and the Knot is loose, so the bag can still slip down as the trash can is filled.
It’s a trial and error method that would waste both bags and time for a hotel cleaning staff, so they always tie the knot after the bag is in the can.
While there’s no chance of ripping a bag this way, it’s impossible to get the opening of the bag truly tight around the opening of the can using this method..
The knot will always tighten up before the opening of the bag is tight around the can.
I could imagine all sorts of solutions to solve this problem but they disappeared as soon as I thought about what it would take to actually manufacture them. But then a solution came to me that stuck.
As a small business owner who has manufactured patented ideas, I would never have pursued this patent if it didn’t satisfy the following criteria:
-
Does it work better than the current method?
-
Is it easy for anyone to do?
-
Can it be made using existing technology?
-
Is it cost-effective, adding minimal or no additional cost per bag?
The answer to all of these questions is yes, and that’s why I pursued the patent for Non-Slip Bags.
No-Slip Trash Bags will save time, look better and
help keep your trash cans cleaner and more sanitary.
